What's a trip to America without a visit to a ballpark?

Lame, that's what it is.

Saturday we went to watch the A's vs. Angels in O.co Stadium. It was a rather large group of us. My parents, grandma, B's best friend and his roommates, and my work-mom and her son all joined us for a warm afternoon of baseball. The A's won (off of a 2 run homer) - and are holding on to 1st place!

I won't give you a play-by-play, since everyone just wants to see the pictures anyway. So here they are.

Sis & B had so much fun that they're going back on Tuesday night to cheer the A's on again. I'm hoping they make it to the playoffs again this year - and go even further. The Giants aren't playing so hot and it's getting to be crunch time. Go A's!

Family time at the ballpark

Bryan had the afternoon off so we decided to get in some family time... between school, work, and everything else we don't really spend a lot of time doing fun family things. It was a pretty nice day (bit on the windy side) and we all had a nice time. Penny decided she loves peanuts and Griffin and I were able to successfully nurse without the nursing pillow.

It's the time again, the most sacred time of year in the Rodgers household - Baseball season has begun (I'm only *mostly* kidding).

Before I married Bryan I knew he was a baseball fan, but I didn't really understand what that meant until after we got married... and I don't think I can really describe it to anyone who is not a baseball fan. Baseball fans are a different breed than the rest of us, and fandom of any other sport isn't really comparable.

Bryan is, first and foremost, a Griffey fan. Since this is most likely Griffey's last season, this means that B is following the Seattle Mariners this year (like last year). After Junior retires, he'll either pick a team or find another player to follow. He's leaning towards following another player as opposed to a single team - I think his new player might be Jason Heyward who is currently with the Braves.

I can't be a Braves fan.

Neither can the kids.

So we'll be Giants fans. They're local, Bonds is gone (thank goodness, I can't stand that guy), and I like the Panda & Lincecum.

Once the kids get old enough, we'll allow them to choose for themselves what team to follow (if they decide to follow baseball). We hope they do (see why I said I was only *mostly* joking? Baseball is serious business in our house).

So Happy Opening Day everyone, may your pitching be consistent and your long-balls clear the bleachers.

As previously mentioned, Bryan and I are heathens and don't celebrate Easter (or any religious holiday for that matter, I compromised on Christmas and we do a secular Santa thing).

Anyway, this means that while a good portion of the country is attending services, attempting to find colorful lost eggs (that symbolize fertility, which I always find amusing), or eating copious amounts of glazed ham, we are free to go out and do whatever. Only nothing is open.

Except the ballpark!

So we pack up today, and with the help of my parents (who are also heathens *lol*), we traveled to Oakland to see the A's play the Mariners. Bryan is a HUGE baseball fan, and has been following the career of Ken Griffey Jr. for well, all of Griffey's career. Since Junior signed with the Mariners this season (well, re-signed since he started with the M's as a rookie), we have become Mariner's fans for this season. Last year it was the Reds and White Sox.

This was a big day of firsts for Penny. First BART ride (Bay Area Rapid Transit - it's like a train). First Baseball game, first time in a high-chair. Yep! Eventful day!

She did great, the game got a little noisy in the bottom of the 9th when the A's had a chance to come back to win (but didn't - Go Mariners! It was a sweep!). She got a little fussy then, but I packed her in the Sungli and she was fine. (We're also experimenting with carriers since while I love our stroller, it's a bit bulky for traveling).
